Fall Season is here!

Fall season is here!

Its my favorite time of the year. Leaves turning colors of red, yellow, and green. Trees shedding their robes of summer heat and grasses turn brown and sound “chunchy” from heat and wear of the mover and children’s feet. Fall season is here!

I am inspired to remember pallets with my sister making Clover necklaces and looking up at the clouds. Some of my creativity was inspiration from the changes of  seasons.

Memories are what makes life special!

Thank you Fall Season,

Whimsical Art Queen Studio Coloring Book

My Whimsical Art Queen Studio Coloring Book is coming along great. I’ve been thinking about what I like to color and now to focus on what will inspire other. I’m thinking special events, holidays, and word catchy ideas.

I’ve finished most of the drawings and now to start some embellishments to give the drawings a unique flair. I want my Whimsical Art Queen Coloring Book to inspire the use of bold colors.

I feel creativity is the key to seeing beyond the page and add the artist touch to my drawings. I am more of a Pop Art artist and that gives me an edge to almost child-like coloring pages. I have researched some of the coloring books and the dark areas of most pages don’t appeal to me. My idea is to give my book art for framing or place on their walls to bring joy. I’m dreaming this would be the ultimate reward.

My Whimsical Art Queen Studio Coloring Book is a work in progress but it’s full-filling my need as an artist. I love color and drawing from that I can visualize the pages. Come back soon and even give me advice, I welcome it.

Artist in training,

Days in San Miguel, 2016

Updates from my previous posts, I’m Waiting with Excitement!, brings joy and happiness with words from myself and my gal friends that shared the Days in San Miguel,2016. Let the fun begin!

I’m Thrilled to be alive!

Life is so good, especially when you realize you have the blessings from above. God gives the blessings I receive and it’s up to me to use my talents to the fullest of my ability. I’m thrilled to be alive!

Today especially, I shopped until I was ready to drop buying fun clothes and accessories to take on my trip to Mexico. I told my friends that I created a shopping frenzy when I decided to be inspired and dress like Advance Style for our trip.

Here is a lady that was thrilled to be alive. She lived her life so that others saw the beauty of her soul. Life is too short not to enjoy what you do and what you wear. Read about this angel of a lady.

This is a portrait of JEANNE LOUISE CALMENT (1875-1997) who was the darling of the media, back in 1995, when she reached her 120th birthday and became the oldest known person in the world – she would further become, by another year, the oldest documented person ever to have lived. I did several sketches, but it was another twelve years before I could start the figure. She was still riding her bicycle at 110 but she fell from it a year or so later, and damaged her hip, which caused her arthritis to advance, so that by 115 years, in 1990, she was confined to a wheelchair. At 118 years, she could no longer hold a cigarette between her fingers, and became a fire hazard, so she stopped smoking. By then, she had smoked continuously for over 100 years, during which time she had outlived every member of her known family, though she never seemed to be lonely, loving life as she did, and having so much of it to remember.

She was wonderfully self-possessed, and naturally polite, so she would always answer questions, but her answers would be as brief as possible so as not to be extensively distracted from her delicious thoughts of the past. “I was a great flirt.” she would say, “There are just so many moments to recall, and each one always reminds me of other things long forgotten.” and she would often ad, “You know, I only ever had one wrinkle and I’m sitting on it.” This, of course, would all sound more naturally amusing in French. Indeed, she always lived in a very natural way, even refusing to have her cataracts operated on, because it was “Natural to have cataracts” at her age.

Her family had been wealthy, so, when she was 84, she was living in a fine Paris apartment when a real-estate broker offered to pay all her bills till she died if she would leave her apartment to him. She agreed, of course, and proceeded to outlive him and all his associates – and the company as well, which she had delivered into bankruptcy, though they claimed at the time it was only to void their agreement.

She was raised in Arles, where her father was a boat builder, and, when she was 18, she spent some time helping out her fiancé’s family-owned fabric shop, which was frequented by Van Gogh when he needed canvass, and, of course she had waited on him. When asked, she would say,” I will never forget him. He was just so dirty – he was filthy as a louse.” It would seem that first impressions really are enduring – and one must keep in mind that Vincent was a failed artist when they met. He never sold a painting in his life, and the lack of recognition clearly unbalanced him – it may have killed him.

She would never give advice on how to live a long life, but would simply note that “God must have just forgotten me.” I think not. In fact, she seemed to grow sassier and lovelier every year, and God must have just wanted to see how long she could keep it up. So, here she is sitting with her ciggies on her own little pedestal for all to admire, but none daring to interrupt the rich flow of her thoughts – good heavens, no!

Thanks for the article and we do love this lady!

That’s why I am thrilled to be alive! I can choose to wear my clothes and accessories no matter what age I am. I love life and live it to the fullest. I hope I can inspire you to give it a thought to enjoy life and feel thrilled to be alive. Show it in your smile, life style, and even your clothes!

Hoping you love me, Doris

I’m Waiting with Excitement

I’m Waiting with Excitement to celebrate my 70th birthday in style!  I’ve got 2 great friends to share it with and a wonderful husband to help guide our paths. Okay, maybe the word isn’t guide but he’ll be along for the ride. It will be a trip to put in the Queen’s history book!

I’ve gathered some fabulous designer looking outfits for a photo shoot in the streets of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. That is where my heart longs to be and suck in all the artistry that makes this city so rare. It is one of the best places to visit and see amazing artist at work.

My adventure will be to dress up in style and take some photos of me and my girlfriends in the streets of Mexico. I love the idea that women over 50 present themselves as bold and beautiful.

I love Iris Apfel and how she boldly wears her clothes. She is an inspiration to older ladies. I too, have a passion for bright colors and want to incorporate that in my wardrobe. I think my friends would say, “Yes, she is a colorful lady” and I don’t want to disappoint them.

I’m waiting with excitement to dress up and go out and see what the streets of San Miguel have to offer. This will be my 4th time there and I know I will not be disappointed. I can’t get enough of the culture, art, and the shopping there.

I will definitely update this post with my our photos of the memorable time but until then I’m waiting with excitement and know the days are ticking off. I still have to cancel mail and paper, talk to my local bank, and verify my minutes with my provider. Oh, I forgot, I must start packing because I have a lot of stuff. My husband says one suitcase but a girl’s got to have jewelry, accessories, makeup, meds, and my tablet to document the vacation.

Check out Things to do in San Miguel de Allende, you too might decided to travel to this amazing art community!

I’m waiting with excitement in Alabama and heading to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for a holiday!

Make 2016 A New Beginning

Many of us start to make New Year resolutions about this time each year. 2016 will begin about the same for many people. Do you want 2016 to be the same? Make 2016  A New Beginning for your resolution!

It can be if you believe. You ask, what are you talking about? I want to pass it on to you. I too make New Year resolutions but the best one I made was to follow Jesus.

Jesus is my go-to when I am feeling sad or need a friend.  Jesus is always available any time day or night. Read your bible and know you can obtain peace.

I like to hear Joel Osteen and see how he adds positive life stories to give us his positive message. He inspired me to heights I never dreamed I could accomplish. God speaks to him and I listen.

The best gift ever given was Jesus coming to this earth and walking among the people and teaching by his example. Jesus died for you and me. He can take away your heartache when everything else fails.

bible-706662_1920Take time to figure out where you will spend eternity. We can’t predict the day we will die. If you don’t make a decision you will be lost when Jesus comes again. Make a wise decision and know it’s the best decision of your life.

A New Beginning can help you in every situation you face. I beg you do it before it’s too late. God has a plan for you. He knows your heart and he will enrich your life and give you peace. You can have the assurance of a home eternally.

I hope my message will inspire you to make a New Beginning, Doris

Inspiration Project Completed

InspirationI am so amazed and happy my Inspiration Art project, 5 canvas painted with acrylic paints is completed!

Another goal, another dream of being a better artist. You have to keep believing you can accomplish any goal you set out to do!

After much research, this was the art I felt spoke to my heart. I love the violin and it had a real meaning to me. I once worked at an elementary school and took violin lessons along with the students. I wasn’t very good even with private lessons. I wish I could be as good as Winslow Davis as he played at Bridgestreet Town Center, Huntsville, Alabama.

Here is my inspiration from the art I found on Light In the Box.

Wonderful having you on my blog!😍

Inspiration Project

Whimsical Wall Art

Whimsical Wall Art

In case you missed the post, Inspiration, I want to update you on my progress. This is the first of several to inspire you to set goals and start a project to inspire your thought process. In this  article, my Inspiration Project, the whimsical wall art.

A quick summary of the last article- I’m inspired to paint a colorful arrangement of canvas for my living room wall. I found just what I was looking for on Lightinthebox . The set of canvas are colorful with a whimsical touch. I started researching the items needed to complete the project and thought I would share it with you. I will update my progress as I go along. It will be mind-boggling at first but I’ve set my goal. I feel assured I can achieve it!

Well, I’m on my way to being half way complete. I set my goal and bought my canvas, paints, and brushes and sketched my work.

  • I gave the canvas an all over coat of light yellow acrylic paint. The canvas has gesso when purchased but I wanted to give more depth to the canvas.
  • I started with the lighter color, white and moved onto the darker paint adding variations of each paint color on top of the main color.
  • I painted smaller details and added shadow effects around the base and sides of the canvas.
  • I penciled in a light drawing of the items in the painting with various colors of green, aqua, orange, darker yellow and beige,
  • Several coats of paint later, I outlined the violin and surrounding items.

The center canvas is now complete!

I hope my Inspiration Project will give you a nudge to get off your seat and start your project now! I will gladly give advice and help if you need me. My goal is to share and inspire!

Self Publishing Part 3

Self Publishing Part 3

Are you ready to move on with Self Publishing Part 3? I am here to tell you Rome wasn’t built in a day! You must buckle down and focus on the end result. Make lists with daily points to complete. I would not make that list too long. Many times we all are anxious to get the job done but lose ourselves because it overwhelms us. I set a goal of completing certain areas of book writing on a weekly basis. Don’t let yourself fall into a slump, it’s time to get real.

I Think I Can!

1-Focus on illustrations – this may be illustrations you draw, select from various friends or the internet, or need the help of a professional. Don’t make the mistake thinking you can do it by yourself. Don’t forget to get permission and a signed contract to use the images in your book. You will also need a bio page of your preferred illustrator.

2-Focus on your book contents page – arrange your chapters with a focus on the reader instead of the author. Chapters require a flow of information to give the reader an easy guide throughout the book.

3-Focus on quotes – quotes from famous people can give your book a sense of ownership and enhance the book tremendously.

4- Focus on costs– a very important part of the book writing process. Talk with your advisor and get a detailed list of items required to complete your project. Don’t just assume the company will cover costs such as, book cover, copyright, etc. Research and research your options.

5- Focus on distribution costs will rise with many attributing factors such as design elements, color illustrations, and selecting a kindle version. I hope by now you did your research and are on your way to having your book cost under control. Yes, things will come up but keep your head focused on costs.

Self Publishing Support

I encourage you to be creativity and get the assistance of your friends and family. Especially let them know you’re in your final days of being a self published writer. Others being behind you and supporting your efforts will give you a rush to help you feel accomplished. I visited a site that inspired me and I think you will be happy with a post of this kind too,  book writing .

I congratulate you as a writer and let’s keep in touch. I hope in some small way I have given you tools to be inspired. Self publishing is a goal that is obtainable. My post, Self Publishing Part 3, contains 5 areas to focus on and complete on your way to become the best writer of year!

Sending inspiration, Doris aka Queen Rose

Self Publishing Part 2

Self Publishing!
Part 2

Six avenues of research in your quest to become a self-published author.

  1. Select your self publishing company. Communicate daily with your advisor.
  2. Enlist the people in your circle of friends to give you feed-back. They will be honest and give you loads of good advice.
  3. Select a person to proof read your chapters. ( You can hire a professional. I chose several of my friends to help.)
  4. Research your title to see if it ranks high with Google. Be creative! It needs to be something catchy.
  5. Your book cover design is most important. Select an image to inspire your audience and make them want to open the book and read.
  6. Keep colored photos to a minimal. Color photos can drive up the cost of production. Black and white are cheaper.

Hints to consider

  • How much are you willing to spend? You can purchase a medium priced package for under $1,000. It will include loads of features and business support to answer all your thousands of questions.
  • I suggest a book calendar to keep you on track. Don’t try to do too many things at once. Build your calendar around topics to be completed. Work with one thing at a time. Start with the most important and work down.

You CAN become a self publish author.

Please feel free to contact me and let’s discuss ways to help you Change Your World with friendship and kindness! I welcomed a change and it blessed so many of my girlfriends lives. Yes, we joined the Red Hat Society and found what we were looking for.

Our first years, 2002, we met monthly and it was always fun and exciting. We met the queen of the Red Hat Society, Sue Ellen Cooper, at Opryland Hotel and danced with 2,000 ladies dressed in purple and pink with red boas flying around. I heard later the feathers stopped up their vents to the air-conditioner system. Now that is a sight to visualize.

Want a She Shed? I got one!

These days all ladies are wanting a She Shed! I am so lucky because I got one. I always had the dream of having a greenhouse, garden shed, a place to develop, write, paint, squander my thoughts and feelings without being disturbed. You have to dream BIG to get what you want in life!

She Shed

My plans just seemed to appear out of the blue. One day while checking out my friends posts on Facebook, I came across a friend that was an acquaintance at my job. She had moved on to another company and she helped me with some photos I used in my self-published book, “Feel it, believe it, pass it on! The Power of Friendships”. She established a company, 2nd Chance Furniture, and I searched through the site looking for furniture projects she posted. One post related to a pergola she built for another friend. I thought, “wow, she is so talented and I wonder if she could build a small shed for me”. I quickly sent her an email with a quick note stating I would like a small shed if she had time to come to my home and talk about the project. Her response, “Sure, what was I thinking about”, so we began to connect over the next couple of weeks and decided on a date to meet and talk about my wants for the shed.

I love this lady!! She and I connect so well because we both are not afraid to express our thoughts and concerns. My husband joined in and gave some pointers and we scratched out a design featuring old doors and windows. My friend has access to some windows that cost $5 each. I began so excited I could not believe in a million years I could have one. I researched all the bells and whistles that I wanted in my She Shed. I love journaling so I kept a 3 ring binder with quotes from Lowes and Home Depot for supplies I might need. Together we shopped around for supplies to get us started building.

She shed walls

The days were hot and humid and the building was slow go. My friend had a full-time job and we would work late afternoons and week-ends to do a little at a time. We even had some guys helping, my husband became involved. It seems that after the walls went up, things started to speed up. Especially when the roof was placed it began to look like a real building!

The She Shed took a few months to complete walls, roof, siding, windows and doors. My builder was amazing and her grandson also came to help. It was a total fun project working with them and especially my husband helping out.

The finishing inside took another 6 months but I am happy with the results. I will link up with another post on how to organize your craft area soon. No, I love to have this place I call my Happy Place!! Want to tell me about your plans for a She Shed? They are all the rage these days. Men have their Man Caves so us ladies can have our She Shed’s, don’t you think? Let’s share the fun!

12 Steps to Shopping Cheap

Yes, I admit I love to shop! I had a mother who made all my clothes along with getting hand-me-downs from my sister that I think sparked my interest to shop. I like the adventure to find a one-of-a-kind item, whether it be clothing, shoes, decor and more. Shopping in the past relieved stress and frustration with things I couldn’t change and it gave me a reason to clear my mind. I would at times, wander around in a daze not really looking for anything special but like the saying, “All that wander are not lost”. I am a wanderlust person that is always up for an adventure. Living a hum-drum life is not for me. I just thrive on the road ahead and try not to look back at the past.

Here are steps to shopping cheap. Like me, you too can be a wanderlust.

  1. Accept the responsibility of a ShopAholic by saying the words out loud, ” I am a true ShopAholic“.
  2. Check out weekly ads in the newspaper, local sales at department stores, for coupons and discounts.
  3. Shop Thrift stores and Consignment shops for super bargain prices. Sometimes you will find new items with tags still on.
  4. Look for flyers left on bulletin boards at your local grocery stores.
  5. Facebook, tweets, and other multmedia apps can give you discounts for on-line shopping. Lots of new apps are added weekly so don’t give up.
  6. Sites on the internet to look for discounts are Woot, Amazon. Ebay, Craigslist and many more.
  7. Watch for bloggers to have a drawing to encourage you to their sites.
  8.  Pintrest plays a vital role in shopping because you can find unusual items for purchase along with some interesting concepts to everything that interests you.
  9. Ask family members for cash when they want to know what you would like for birthdays, Mother’s Day, Christmas and all holidays. You can have the extra cash for large purchases
  10. Scan billboard signs for local craft shows and mark them on your calendar. Many times the owners are willing to take discounts on their items.
  11. Talk to friends that love to shop and they can give you insights to upcoming sales and discounts.
  12. Always know you are loved when your spouse yells, ” How many shoes do you really need”.

God Bless you and keep on shopping! Queen Rose
